What is the Code of Conduct?

The Code of Conduct is detailed in full below.

Scope

The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to support learners within the Career Accelerator to demonstrate the behaviours that will enable them to be successful in their Career Accelerator journey and beyond into the world of work. It covers how FourthRev expects learners to behave while interacting with their peers, Career Accelerator support staff, and university partner members staff, using the online communication and learning tools within the programme.

At FourthRev, we believe in the value of diversity. Our community is international, comprised of people with different backgrounds, experiences, identities, and perspectives. At FourthRev, we strive to ensure that everyone’s perspective is heard, regardless of race, gender, gender identity, gender expression, age, sexual orientation, disability status, religious affiliation, or socioeconomic status. We are passionate about utilising our staff's and learners' diverse experiences to transform inclusivity within tech education and employment.

We developed this Code of Conduct to create a safe environment, an inclusive and welcoming community, and to document clear guidelines for building and maintaining relationships while on the Career Accelerator and beyond.

Code of Conduct Guidance

The Code of Conduct and behaviour acts as a guide while studying in the Career Accelerator and in any Career Accelerator community activities.

Communication and professionalism

As a Career Accelerator learner, you will engage with a variety of different individuals, from other learners to support team staff, university partner academics, as well as industry and employer partner representatives. To create an inclusive and professional community, all staff will adhere to these guidelines.

FourthRev support team

Your FourthRev support team is comprised of your success manager, career coach, and facilitator. Success managers help to articulate and meet goals, overcome obstacles, and provide ongoing support throughout the Career Accelerator. Career coaches provide professional and pastoral (personal) support to enable success in whatever comes next in your employment journey. The facilitator will bring the learning content to life and help you get the most from the Career Accelerator experience. All of these roles are here to help you and will deliver a personalised commitment to your success. In return, they expect the utmost commitment, professionalism, and hard work from you.

University partner team

The Career Accelerator is a unique learning experience co-designed by industry and the world’s best universities. Throughout the programme, you will engage with the university partner academic team through course videos, as well as masterclasses diving deeper into key curriculum concepts. However, the academic team is not part of the support ecosystem and any queries about the curriculum or the Career Accelerator experience should be directed at your FourthRev support team.

Other learners

Other than the interactions you will have with other Career Accelerator learners while collaborating on projects and discussing course content, you are encouraged to build and maintain your network. The process of engaging with a diverse group of learners from a variety of backgrounds should be an enriching experience that will prove useful in your professional life. Like all communities, you will get on better with some members than others. Maintaining respect is of utmost importance, which includes, but is not limited to avoiding any of the unacceptable behaviours detailed on this page.

Industry and employer partners

As part of your Career Accelerator experience, you will hear from and engage with representatives from FourthRev’s industry and employer partners. These individuals will feature in course materials, and will potentially also deliver masterclasses and engage with you directly as part of the employer project. You should engage with them in much the same way as you would other members of the Career Accelerator community, however, it is important to remember these individuals could be future colleagues so it is important to remain professional.

Debates among the community

You may end up in discussions about sensitive topics. These are typically topics which are more likely to cause differing or opposing reactions among individuals, such as politics, religion, and finance. Don’t avoid these topics. Rather, have conversations in a sensitive manner. If you think you have made someone feel uncomfortable then stop the conversation. If you want to have conversations like these, set boundaries at the beginning of the conversation to manage others'  expectations. Practise self-awareness, treat others as you would yourself, and be accountable for your actions.

Attendance and cancellation

Attendance for all programme sessions is a core requirement for the Career Accelerator. Attendance provides assurances that you are accessing all of the incredible learning content, completing assignments, working on your objectives, and receiving best-in-class coaching. While community events are optional, in order to remain connected and supported, we would recommend that you attend at least one event per quarter.

Unacceptable behaviour

As Career Accelerator learners, you must take responsibility to ensure that you conduct yourself in a professional manner. The below behaviours will not be tolerated and could lead to your removal from the programme and forfeit of your programme fee.

Abuse and violence

  • Incitement of violence towards any individual, including encouraging a person to commit suicide or to engage in self-harm.
  • Offensive comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, mental illness, neurotype, physical appearance, body, age, race, ethnicity, nationality, language or religion. Unwelcome comments regarding a person’s lifestyle choices and practices, including those related to food, health, and identity.
  • Bullying or anti-social behaviour.
  • Deliberate misgendering or use of names that they no longer wish to be called.
  • Conversations or presentations that involve racism, ableism, transphobia, homophobia, classism, fatphobia, body shaming, or colourism.
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, taking pictures or recording without permission.
  • Sustained disruption of talks or other events.
  • Inappropriate sexual attention.
  • Inappropriate social contact, such as requesting or assuming inappropriate levels of intimacy with others.
  • Deliberate 'outing' of any aspect of a person’s identity without their consent except as necessary to protect other members or other vulnerable people from intentional abuse.
  • Sharing private communication without permission.
  • Engaging in trolling or gaslighting behaviours.

Please let FourthRev know immediately by contacting your success manager if you have any concerns or believe someone has broken the above guidelines.

The virtual learning environment should be considered a professional environment at all times. This includes:

  • Being fully clothed for attendance at all live classes, 1:1s and student-led collaboration, excluding individuals who are breastfeeding.
  • Refrain from the use of substances that could impair the ability to adhere to the code of conduct for all live classes, 1:1s, and student-led collaboration.
  • Use of professional language, refraining from the use of profanities or other unacceptable language that may be considered derogatory, offensive, or mean-spirited.

Plagiarism

Please ensure the work that you submit is your own work. Any information, thoughts or content in your assignment that is not your own should be referenced correctly using the Harvard referencing system. If you would like support with referencing material correctly in your assignments, please contact your success manager.

When submitting your assignments, you will make a declaration that the work is your own. Anti-plagiarism software is used to analyse submissions for potential plagiarism. Suspected plagiarism will be investigated in conjunction with our education partner.

We take plagiarism seriously and would recommend you read through the details concerning plagiarism and its consequences.

Consequences of Plagiarism

Instances of plagiarism will be dealt with in line with the policy of the Programme's Education Partner. Plagiarism is a serious offence and potential consequences of plagiarism could include voiding of assessment grading and removal from the programme.
